I've been down this past weekend, only caught a few small Stump en Strepies. I don't think we are going to have a good season at all, the fish should have shown already; normally they come in before all the holidaymakers arrive. December is not normally the time to catch lots of fish; they wait till the water gets calmer in January.

AndreK said the same last year and no fireworks  I came back just now and heading back on Boxing day; all I can say is don't get your hopes up. One here, one there mostly small ones but then again that is fishing for you. If you put the time in you WILL get rewarded; saw a guy catching one YT on the line yesterday but that was it. My score currently standing on 4 trips = 9 fish; Petrol bill R700. If it was easy everybody would have done it; then again one just need one trip and get rewarded with 40 fish. Stywe lyne manne

Hi Ally G - My prediction early in December was completely off the mark; the fish was plentiful till I left three weeks ago. We caught +- 150 fish in 4 trips; only kept the ones that measured over 35cm, brought home +- 75. You MUST try various spots; the lagoon don't have reefs and structure so you cannot pinpoint any one spot. Use a 1/0 hook and catch on the drift with the outgoing or incoming tide till you locate fish and then anchor. We did two trips to Spreeuwalle, 1 trip we caught 45 (6 on the boat) and the other trip we caught 1 fish only; Spreeuwalle you must stay just behind the last breaker and start on the drift. If you have patience stick around in middle keel and you WILL be rewarded. Start on the line and work your way to Shark bay, move towards the Yacht club and then try "platklip". You can also try and anchor in line with Kabeljou street and drift towards the Parks office; if the current is strong use a heavy ball 3oz sinker with about 400-500mm trace and use a light anchor in order to slowdown your drift-speed. I don't think the report about the Orcas are true, behind the Island the water is generally about 5m deep and then the channel run past Irvan's Hole through middle keel that is about the same depth; I think this is abit shallow for two beasts to coast in. "Hulle gaan mos net sand vreet van die bodem af"
