Beyond the Berg River

Beyond the Berg River

Postby JohanGPS » Sun Mar 29, 2015 9:16 pm

Ok I know the Bergriver , sort of, however any tips are most welcome. Ask me and I am willing to share mine. One is never too old to learn
What is out there when I zoom out to sea from the Berg river mouth. I know there is a bank called Dr Bank, what can I fish there ? Any other spots?

My guess is hotties, hotties and more hotties. Not mush else that side. If you are lucky you might pick up a snoek or 2, but for that you must go a bit deeper. Try north blinder as well.

Good luck!

Oh yes, I know you have gps, but be aware of the fog this time of year. It closes in very quickly.

You can expect , white stump , Hotties , Gurnard nice size , ST Joshep , Very few cob from the boat there

If you have twin installation you can go North Blinder for yellowtail and Snoek but it is a long run from the berg river

Rusty send me your WA number. Mine 0823800402. I am going to start a Veldrift/Bergriver group. Then we we will all know. Not all my mates are fishermen but at least in times of need they are there...
Sure I will update you. And I will have a cold one ready although we are packing up on Monday, never pack up without emergency remedy for heat stroke ...but then Wednesday is good for Mackerel in False bay again.
Ok makes sense to maybe go to Blinder. I have only 5 nm....but I have Suzuki 4 stroke and 50 l of fuel, can travel...have passports also ready, lol. had yellow fever injections too. 50 L is 25 hours of traveling at about 20 kn.
But I think I will first try Doctor bank Got a few GPS waypoints today...remember there is a Leerie I need to tame in the Berg and if, I get a Elf or two to braai it will be good too and I know how to look for WhiteStump on my "torch" (fish finder)
But sure WA me and I will update. Spoke to Jan today and not much going on at the moment. Will call other Rusty tmr and hear what's the story.
Bush, thanks for info...I cannot wait to catch my first Tail., but I think it will take more effort and professional guidance. But lets see.

Hallo Johan and Rusty
I am in the process of completing a shack in St Helena Bay and hope to go there fairly regularly in future and keep some sort of a boat there. I unfortunately know very little about the fishing, spots and conditions in the area and would appreciate if I can be included in your group.
Hopefully we can link up at some stage in future.
