Hi all is the shimano trevela 80-100 pounds to heavy to jig for yellowtail in western cape. Thinking of pairing with big boss 5000

I would assume that its the Trevala MH rod (Meduim/Heavy), which is PERFECT for our Cape Town yellowtail!!

I used mine to jig for yellowtail at Dassen and Cape Point, as well as to spin for longfin in the deep.

However, if you're planning on going to Struisbaai, then i would opt for a much heavier outfit!! Our Cape Town yellowtail seldom exceed 8kg's, with most fish being in the 3-5kg class, whereas in Struisbaai, you often get 15-20kg class brutes!!!! For Struisbaai yellowtail, i use a Trevala XXH (80-200lb) rod, which is the same rod i use for yellowfin tuna!!
