Post by tcohen » Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:24 pm

Last weekend whilst on false bay reefs I started slow pitch jigging not really expecting anything, suddenly line went vas, Had caught roman on jig there before, but suddenly realized it wasn’t was surprised with a 55cm kobbie. Kept it for the pan.

Well done? Did you guys have bait lines in the water at the same time? Ive been using a similar type of jig for the last year or so, but i use it as a sinker with a baited hook above it and leave it in the rod holder to let the boat "work" it, Ive had great success with them so far and have caught 15 different species on them, from Hotties to Roman and also Tuna and sharks. A couple weeks ago i managed this kob of almost 19kg on the Jig in False bay, we were 4 guys on the boat that day all fishing with fresh chokka and other baits and there was a good few boats around us at one stage and we caught plenty small kob and geelbek but only this one Big fish came out that day between the boats and it was on the jig!

Also caught a good few of these Young Geelbek and kob on the jig, most of the times the baited hook above the jig would still have bait on meaning that the fish was more interested in the Jig than the bait.

The jig I used was a 30gram major craft slow pitch jig, had no bait on it. The jig was red and white. Can buy them in a few colors from Tuckers Tackle.

I make a normal rig with a 3 way swivel similar to what we use off the shore, a bait hook trace of 30cm and the jig trace slightly longer, the jig is un-baited and used as a sinker and the movement of the boat "works" it.
