Hotties on lures

Post by hilros007 » Sat Apr 18, 2020 9:24 am

Hi.

I saw a video of a guy catching hotties on small jigs.

Do they often take lures / artificials.

If so, I'm sure l can convince them to take a baitfish immitation fly...

Never ever and I have tried them all. Very interested to see if anyone has had success. I'm sure everyone has tackle packed and waiting for lockdown to end!!! Snoek looking amazing up the west coast. Quite a few comms boats going out from Millers but from what I've seen not the best catches but still not bad here and there.

jigging for our reef and kelp forest species in the Cape is slowly taking off and success rate is quite high. as to flyfishing for them the most success for hotties ive had is on small charlie patterns, especially with some pink in them.

They do take micro jigs. 20-30gm tungsten ones to get down with a dressed hook on 10lb braid or lighter.

I have caught a few hotties on spinners when dropping spinners to or near the bottom when the yellowtail were deep .

Even caught a Fransmadam (dikoog) in the same way on a spinner just inside the point a couple years back.

I have caught some on jig heads and those Berkeley worms , just touching the bottom .

This was a while back , but we got them on fat Albert grubs , one use for bass , in fresh water .

With these micro and small jigs , that’s been around for some time , net you will get them on them .

One thing I can recall very , very good , our catches multiplied , when fishing al light as possible .

Just saw a thread on FB on the SFSA group a guy that had footage catching hotties on what is called the 15g fishman sting jig.
