Marlin season

FYI, we went to the Alphard's on the 1st Jan, a bit of a easterly blowing, tough getting there, 3 hour trip, arrived at 7am, caught yellowtail solid from 7am - 12pm. Then trolled for an hour for marlin, 1/2 hour into trolling, saw a stripie behind the boat following the middle cona, it then disappeared, minute later the outside outrigger went (another cona) but the hook didn't sit. Trolled a bit more and then had to leave due to the westerly picking up, got back to struis around 16h00.
A fish is too valuable to catch only once, catch & release!!

I had a report last night on FB that BIG BOB had strikes from 6 stripies yesterday on the 45's. It sounds like the game is on at Struis, what with all the malkoppie YT and all. The 45.s water is 22/23 and purple according to BW and has been for nearly a month, and ditto for the outer edge of the 12. The 45's are one hell of a way to go for small boats, but in Feb the squid shoals usually congregate there and many marlin are seen at night under the lights of the chokka fleet on a daily basis. With the chokka fleet still active off Jeffries Bay there have been no reports.

Can anyone give me an update from Struis. I am going to spend a couple of weeks there but dont want to get there too early. ( I have had my best results between the last week in Feb to mid March weather permitting. The water temp and colour are near perfect from what I gather, Thanks.

Gareth got a couple of fish early this week on the 45's and dropped a black (on a jig). Several fish sighted and a few knock downs. Water is ready, just waiting for the weather. Will be going up on Sunday for the week. You fishing the TOMT?

Thanks! Is the TOMT fully booked, I will be there during the comp (looking at the weather) and would make a late entry as its the best comp on the whole SA scene. I prefer to fish the outside of the 12 as I know it well, and the travelling is not so bad. But the best fish have been on the 45's for the last 3 years which is a pain, and there is the issue of being outside ones safety and not covered by insurance!
