We were staying at Kingfisher Heads in Veldrift during October school holidays - could hear the guys running up river at night and no doubt plenty were poaching. You should see the perlemoen shells that litter the bottom of the sea floor off places like Pearly Beach, Die Dam etc on the East Coast. It makes you want to cry ... a the local cops know exactly who is doing it

Hi guys!

Any news on what is happening at the river? I am going up in a two week's time to our holiday house there in Velddrif. We live next to the river and I plan on taking my GF and our friends to try and catch some fish.

Has anyone gotten any reports of what is going on? So far I just plan on taking them on the duck to the train bridge with some sardine and see if we can catch some ELF or the whatever else might bite. Might just slowly drive up the river (or down) and watch the fish finder. I wouldn't mind catching a steenbras for the fire!

We also have a little beach in front of the house down at the water where the locals come and catch from the side at high tide, but I have only been there for 2/3 weekends and never hung around to see if they catch anything. That said, I have seen our fish finder light up royally from the boat just off to the side of the little beach there in the middle of Waterkant road.

Any advice or tips would be really appreciated!

Johan and I have been fishing there quite often , but I have only caught Elf , mostly at the railway bridge and also halfway between the Velddrif bridge and the river mouth.
There has been many reports of nice size Cob and Steenbras cought there , but mainly at night , get Johan to add you to our Watsap group , I will also be in ST Helena Bay from 14th Dec to 8th Jan.

Hi Guys

Trust all are well

I'm going to st Helena this weekend and are thinking of going to the berg river mouth at veldrif.

Should I go in to the mouth or look for banks around veldrift at sea

Thanks in advance

Does anyone have a GPS track for the Berg they can share? Or just stay on the outside of all bends (and at high-ish tide)?
